Everett is a small borough in Bedford County in southern Pennsylvania. It is nestled in a valley of the Allegheny Mountains and surrounded by beautiful, lush countryside consisting of woods, pasture, and agricultural fields.
Already a hiker’s paradise, Pennsylvania’s longest hiking trail, the Mid State Trail, passes directly through Everett.
Everett began as a small Native American village and trading post located on a wagon road headed to Fort Duquesne in south-central Pennsylvania. It was originally named Bloody Run after a tragic battle between settlers and Native Americans.
In 1787, Michael Barndollar purchased the land and designed a town he called Waynesburg. However, the bloody history wasn't so easily forgotten, and most people continued to call it Bloody Run. This hamlet was incorporated as a borough in November of 1860, and in 1873 its name was changed to Everett after Massachusetts politician Edward Everett.
Because of its history, Everett was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
VisitPA.com says this about Everett:
"As you travel through Everett on the Lincoln Highway (Route 30), you will have the opportunity to view the rich history of Everett/Bloody Run and enjoy the small-town ambiance and many outdoor recreational opportunities, including access to the little Juniata River, Everett's portion of the Mid-State/Great Eastern Trail, and the wooded trails, natural setting, and events at Everett's Tenley Park."
