Everett is a small borough in Bedford County, in southern Pennsylvania. It sits in a valley of the Allegheny Mountains and is surrounded by beautiful, lush countryside consisting of woods, pasture, and agricultural fields. The scenery is lovely!
The area is a hiker’s paradise, and Pennsylvania’s longest hiking trail, the Mid State Trail, passes directly through Everett.
Everett began as a small Indian village and trading post located on a wagon road headed to Fort Duquesne in south central Pennsylvania. It was originally named Bloody Run after a battle between settlers and Native Americans.
Michael Barndollar purchased the land in 1787 and laid out a town he called Waynesburg. However, most people still called it Bloody Run. The little town was incorporated as a borough in November of 1860, and in 1873 its name was changed to Everett after Massachusetts politician Edward Everett.
The town carries many interesting stories and much history. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
Today Everett covers a total of 1.06 square miles of land and is home to almost 2,000 people.
VisitPA.com says this about Everett:
